Poppydog cake

I know I have just posted but I just remembered one of my comments this week being from mymumdom who asked what recipe I was planning to do for Poppydog's Birthday - she will be 5 on Valentines day!

It was a recipe that a good friend gave to me, so here goes my first recipe post

Birthday Cake for Poppydog

6oz SR wholemeal flour
2oz Demerara sugar
2 tablespoons dried skimmed milk [although I use fresh milk]
2 small eggs beaten
5 tablespoons cold water
2 overflowing tablespoons liquid honey
4 overflowing tablespoons of mascarpone cheese
Doggy Chocs or treats, Birthday candles and holders to decorate.

1.    Pre-heat oven to 180oC / 350oF / Gas Mark 4.
2.    Grease two 7” round cake tins
3.    Put all ingredients except honey, cheese and doggy chocs/treats into a bowl and fold together.
4.    Divide mixture into the two cake tins.
5.    Bake in middle of over for about 20mins. Allow to cool
6.    Mix honey and 3 tablespoons of cheese together and spread the mixture on the cake
7.    Place the other cake on top and frost with remaining cheese
8.    Decorate the cake with doggy chocs, treats and candles.

AND DON'T FORGET TO .....

9.    Send invites to all your dog’s friends for a birthday feast!

The eve of my birthday

I'm terrible, I'm like a little kid - I love Birthdays even if I have to make my own cake, remind the husband in countdown fashion that it's 4 weeks to my birthday, 3 weeks to my birthday, 2 weeks [you get the jist!]

Just finished making the cake - will ice it tormorrow, just plain white I think and then made some Panna Cotta yum yum.

So I have just sat down with a nice cup of tea and rung my Mum to tell her that I will miss her tomorrow, but will see her later in the week and arrange to meet up for a nice lunch, we also remember my Grandma's Birthday as she would have been 93 years old today and reflect on the day as it is the Feast day of the Guardian Angels as well http://saints.sqpn.com/guardian-angels/

I relayed the latest antics of the grandchildren to her which made us both laugh - Son would not stop talking for a 2 1/2 year old he certainly goes on and on, we were driving to the supermarket and I asked him to have a sleep on the way and he said ok and I looked in the rear view mirror and the kid had gone to sleep!

Daughter did not seem happy with her clothes today she told Daddy that her jeans were broken - in fact they were fashionably adorned with false patchwork squares, so we told her that she was our little fashion princess, somehow I don't think she was convinced.

Took Poppy Dog for a walk after tea, but unfortunately we came home with her a bag of nerves as some village folk have decided to shoot at pigeons and hearing the shot guns going off in close range became a little scarry for both Poppy and me, these are the sorts of village sounds that we tend to hear now and again, I don't mind them from a distance but less that 100 metres too close!

Lets hope it's a good day tomorrow  - even if it rains which is a 99.9% chance that it will.

Birthday Parties, Sleep and Chocolate!!!!!

It was lovely to be invited to my neighbours little boys 1st Birthday party yesterday - a small gathering of five mums, 8 children under 3 1/2 and 2 rabbits. Great food and a nice glass of red wine. It's fascinating to watch children interacting with each other and just huge relief that mine behaved really well although now I pay the price - Sunday morning awake by 6am and by 9:50am I believe it calls for a 20min trip to the nearest supermarket to let them sleep. This is definitely a plus to living in the countryside! Although would much have preferred them to go to the Village Family Service, but I need to get through the next 8 hours. Somehow chocolate is making its way to the top of my requirements from the shopping list.
